An inflatable packaging specialist has revealed that the booming e-commerce trend has helped drive demand for bespoke solutions and increased levels of product protection. Ross Woodburn, MD of Falkirk-based BUBL Packaging, explained that businesses have increasingly started supplying single product orders direct to end users, as opposed to the more traditional practice of shipping in bulk to distributors or retailers. As a result, the requirement for packaging designed for bulk delivery has been replaced with the need for solutions more suitable for products being shipped singly.

Which type of disposable glove is right for you?
When it comes to buying disposable gloves, there are many different options available to choose from, which suit a variety of different needs. With so many choices available, the decision can get overwhelming, so here we try to break it down to help make the process of choosing gloves much simpler. The most common disposable gloves are latex, nitrile and vinyl gloves. Each glove is designed to serve specific tasks while protecting the skin and preventing cross-contamination but the level of protection, comfort, and durability can vary vastly between the different types of gloves.
Nitrile Gloves
Nitrile gloves have become very popular since the 1990’s and they are the preferred type of disposable gloves used within the medical industry now, as they eliminate the risk of latex allergy reactions and are also exceptionally durable, which minimises the risk of the gloves puncturing whilst in use. Nitrile gloves are also available in a range of thicknesses, textures and colours. Medical users typically opt for Blue, in either Lite or Regular, for maximum comfort, touch and softness. For Heavier uses such as Tattoo, Finger Nails, Make Up, Domestic and Commercial cleaning etc. Extra Thick in Blue or Black are the norm. For heavy industrial use, such as factories, engineering, car repair and valet, customers usually opt for Orange Heavy Duty, Textured gloves, for maximum grip, puncture and tear resistance.
Latex Gloves
Latex gloves are made from a natural material, rubber latex. In terms of quality, durability, flexibility and cost they are an ideal solution and many users find them comfortable to wear over long periods of time. Despite their advantages, latex gloves have become an issue for some due to latex allergies.
Vinyl Gloves
Vinyl gloves are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a petroleum-based film. They are typically used as a cheap, latex-free alternative to Nitrile gloves. Vinyl gloves are less durable than latex and nitrile and only offer limited protection against chemical or biomedical exposure. Due to their low cost and low protection levels, vinyl gloves are commonly used in food preparation, retail environments etc. where regular changes of glove are required, meaning the user is only required to wear them for short periods of time.

BUBL Packaging – leading makers of inflatable and reusable protective packaging – has today announced the launch of its latest new product line BoardBUBL. The new product line is the result of a long term collaboration between BUBL Packaging and Unisurfity.
Jez Browning, founder of Unisurfity was attracted by the BUBL Packaging stand at a tradeshow event in Birmingham. After discussing the constant issues of travelling with surfboards it became apparent that there was a huge gap in the market for a protective packaging solution designed specifically for shipping surf boards - to ensure that they arrived safely and in good condition. Within 1 week prototypes were being developed and the design, testing and redesign to find a cost effective, practical and efficient packaging solution began. From those early days in 2017 the product has now been fully developed and pilot schemes have been completed with some of the surf industries leading brands.
Initially the products are available to the surf board manufacturing sector and related sectors. It turns out that the stand up paddle board, snowboard and windsurf and skateboard equipment industries all face the same issues too.
As a result of the trials with the surf board manufacturers we have already started to get inquiries from end users who want to buy kits for shipping their own boards around too. We are already working on that too!
Ross Woodburn - Managing Director, BUBL Packaging, discusses the necessity of protective packaging for goods in transit since the rise of e-commerce.
Everyone knows prevention is better than cure, even if it costs a little more upfront, and this is particularly true when it comes to packaging and delivering goods purchased online; damage inflicted in transit reflects badly upon the seller and leads to loss of reputation (for which read Sales).

BUBL Packaging – leading makers of inflatable and reusable protective packaging – has today announced availability of its Royal Mail Small Parcel BUBL Bag, which is designed to fit within the Royal Mail’s Small Parcel size requirements and is all that’s needed to ship products – just pop into a mailing bag. It replaces the cardboard box, bubble - wrap, tape and void fill. It is also ideal for shipping multiple items – which are held securely in a cushion of air inside the BUBL Bag.
BUBL Bags are inflated only when needed, dramatically reducing demand for storage space. With this new BUBL Bag simply inflate, insert your item(s) and pop into a mailing bag; no other packaging is needed. The whole process is very quick and easy.
Organisations that ship products using the Royal Mail Small Parcel service will save significant time and money in labour and material costs, especially if multiple items are shipped; and it effectively eliminates transit damage, saving on replacement costs too.
Following strong sales growth in the past year of the original BUBL Bags the company invested in product development and launched two new product lines (BUBL Pods and BUBL Cases) at the Internet Retailing Expo/eDelivery Expo at the NEC in Birmingham in March; then last Month announced the availability of BUBL Wrapping, which is designed to protect large or awkward products.
The company has also created a new service, BUBL Tec, for customers who need a customised solution. BUBL Tec utilises the technology behind the BUBL Packaging products and enables rapid customisation of its protective packaging to develop innovative bespoke solutions.
Ross Woodburn, managing director, BUBL Packaging said: “This variant of our extremely popular BUBL Bag makes it easy and fast to protect items and when inflated the package dimensions comply with the Royal Mail Small Parcel requirements. It simplifies the packaging process, is quicker and cheaper and reduces costs spent on transit damage replacements too.”
BUBL Packaging has today announced the availability of BUBL Wrapping, which replaces several traditional packaging components to provide very strong protection for fragile, awkward or large products.
BUBL Wrapping is inflated only when needed, dramatically reducing demand for warehouse space, and it can be reused many times – making it environmentally friendly and highly cost - effective. In addition, with BUBL Wrapping the packing process is much faster than with traditional packaging.
A growing number of companies have stopped selling some products on – line because the cost of transit damage, which accounts for around 7% of all product shipments on average*, makes it unprofitable; with BUBL Wrapping transit damage is virtually eliminated.

Factor in the cost of replacements for damaged goods and it is easy to see why the new product is taking off so rapidly.”
Craig Sanders, Purchasing & Service Manager, Induced Energy, commented: “We recently changed to BUBL Packaging products; our packing materials were not eco - friendly and were very expensive. As we manufacture some delicate products (including large sheets of glass) the materials we use are paramount to the safety of our products, which are shipped across the world. BUBL Wrapping has greatly improved our products safety and has made our entire process more eco - friendly as it is fully recyclable.”
BUBL Bag will trade as BUBL Packaging following strong Sales growth and Innovation Funding Award
BUBL Bag is to trade from now on as BUBL Packaging; the change of name reflects the company’s rapidly expanding number of product lines and follows strong sales growth in the past year of the original BUBL Bags. Following the recent win of prestigious EDGE Award funding BUBL Packaging invested in product development and two new product lines are now available.
BUBL Packaging’s products replace cardboard boxes, padded envelopes, void fill and bubble wrap; the packing process takes much less time than traditional packaging. In addition, they take up very little space and can be reused many times, so they are much more cost – effective that traditional packaging. All material used is recyclable.
The products inflate to provide a secure, air – filled pocket that offers maximum protection for valuable or fragile goods, so transit damage, which accounts on average for up to 8% of all product returns*, and a much higher percentage in some categories, is dramatically reduced.
Two new product lines have been added since the original BUBL Bag:
BUBLPods provide advanced protection for high – value products ranging from mobile phones and laptops to crystal, artwork and televisions. The air - filled tubes can be customised for specific product variants.
BUBLCases are perfect for transporting valuable technical and audio - visual equipment. The robust design is ideal for heavy duty, multi - trip use.
The company has also created BUBL Tec to highlight the technology behind the packaging system and enable rapid customisation.
Ross Woodburn, managing director, BUBL Packaging said: “The rebranding makes it very clear that we are in the business of packaging, and the new product lines extend our offer to address a much wider range of product categories.
BUBL Packaging will be formally launched at the IR EXPO at the NEC Birmingham on the 21st and 22nd March 2018. The new website www.bublpackaging.co.uk will also be launched at the same time. The company will be exhibiting the full extended product range on stand C103.

Founded by Ross Woodburn, BUBL Bag is a protective packaging company which focuses on inflatable packaging products which provide maximum product protection cost effectively, and ideal for ecommerce distribution. BUBL Bag also sells unique packaging products which provide excellent product protection, are reusable, recyclable, and lighter than standard packaging.

Well worry no more, our next winner has the solution. BUBL Bag’s innovative, inflatable, reusable packaging products offer a new way to distribute items safely and cost-effectively.”
The business was one of 38 businesses to receive funding of over £1m as part of the Scottish EDGE’s eleventh competition round, which launched in July of this year.
